MidwestMicrofest is a concert series which explores music written and performed in non-standard tunings. Have you ever wondered why there are 5 black and 7 white notes on a piano? These 12 pitches form a standard system that wasn't a standard until the early 1900's. Nor is there any reason they should remain the only choice for musicians and audiences. The first concert explores a fertile jumping off point that has enough in common with the 12-note standard, yet has its own new exotic resources--19-notes per octave.
