WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
In this darkly ironic and comic adaptation of Kafka's masterpiece of isolation and human cruelty Metamorphosis, award-winning, Haitian-American slam poet/playwright Lenelle Moise reworks Kafka's Gregor into Gregora. While Kafka depicts his character Gregor's emotional disenfranchisement through a literal transformation into an insect, Moise's Gregora is a critically ill, post-menopausal mother who supports her family by working in the sex industry. Local favorite Linda Putnam offers a breathtakingly physical performance as Gregora. Matermorphosis illustrates the social constructs that compromise our humanity, generosity and even physical autonomy as we age and face the possibility of illness and even death.
