WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Written by Carlos Lacámara, Havana Bourgeois is set in Cuba from 1958-1960 and explores the impact of Fidel Castro's Revolution on the Cuban middle class. This remarkable new play follows the lives of the employees of a Havana based advertising agency during the islands' transition from Capitalism to Communism. The creative team at the agency is forced to forgo their usual clients and instead pitch a revolution that will turn their lives upside down. Through these ordinary characters, the play explores how over a two-year period Castro converted a rabidly capitalistic nation into the Western hemisphere's first Marxist state. This extraordinary play mixes powerful drama and touching humor to tell a story of historical importance following this year's 50th Anniversary of the day Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries seized control of Cuba.

Danny Pino portrays the leading character Alberto Varela, a talented aspiring art director at the Havana based ad agency. Pino is an American actor of Cuban descent, currently appearing on the CBS TV series Cold Case.
