WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Hope is here! And she's not alone. Playwright and actor, Tara Handron, discards clichéd portrayals of recovery and relies on complex characters in her back-to-back portrayals of over 20 diverse female alcoholics. The play emerged out of Handron's thesis research at Georgetown University. She challenges the role technology, specifically online recovery meetings, is playing in the rehabilitation of alcoholics in the new millennium.
This show contains strong language, violence, drinking, drugs, and depictions of smoking.
Tara received her BFA in drama from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She has performed on various stages in New York and Chicago.
While pursuing her master's at Georgetown University, as part of her thesis, Tara wrote the one-woman show, What's a Girl to do When It's Time to Put Down the Drink? (now called Drunk with Hope in Chicago). It premiered at Georgetown in April 2008 and was directed by Laura Brienza. They had so much fun the first time they did it all again at H St Playhouse in Washington, DC, in February 2009. Tara also presented it this past summer in the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, DC.
This show is presented as part of the Chicago Fringe Festival.
